The surf spot features two types of surf breaks:
- Beach Break (Beginner-Friendly): The beach break at Hon Chong is located closer to the shore and is perfect for beginners. With a sandy bottom and deep water, it is a great place for those who are experiencing surfing for the first time
- Reef Break (All Levels): A short distance further out from the shore, the reef break offers Three Surf Spots on the same beach. The reef break at Hon Chong delivers a more dynamic and exciting experience, with the opportunity to ride longer, more consistent waves.
The A-Frame Middle Peak
- Type: A-Frame reef/sand combo
- Ideal Tide: Mid tide
- Best Swell: NE
- Level: All levels (depending on size)
The centrepiece of Hon Chong Beach, this peak forms where the reef transitions into sand. It’s the most consistent wave and the go-to for locals and travellers alike. The right tends to be longer and mellower, while the left offers a slightly steeper takeoff. On smaller days, it’s perfect for intermediates; on larger days, it can surprise you with power and hollow sections
The Hon Chong Right Peak (South Corner)
- Type: Right-hand reef/sand combo
- Ideal Tide: Mid to high
- Best Swell: NE – E

Just beneath the Hon Chong, this spot offers long right-hand waves. Ideal for longboarders. When the swell direction lines up, these waves can produce waves that can hold up and connect all the way through to the beach break. It’s a mellow wave, best surfed on mid to high tides.
The Race Track Peak(North Corner)
- Type: Right-hand reef break
- Ideal Tide: Mid to high
- Best Swell: NE
